The problem

Diet Smoke’s broad range of CBD products — from gummies and vapes to pre-rolls and mushroom supplements — has become a regular feature of their customers’ daily lives. Yet, the complicated consumption habits associated with cannabis products bring both an exciting opportunity and a challenge: helping existing customers discover more of what Diet Smoke has to offer.

Their first cross-sell approach used a blanket 30-day post-purchase flow through Klaviyo, based on limited data insights. While the team managed to make it work manually, feeding real-time data into Klaviyo required heavy initial setup and constant monthly fine-tuning. It ultimately fell short for two main reasons:

  • A lack of data intelligence meant that timing and cross-sell offers often failed to align with customers’ consumption and purchasing patterns.
  • The purchase journey was clunky, requiring customers to click through multiple pages to complete an order.

How Diet Smoke solved this using Relo

Diet Smoke made the most of Relo’s standout features to help customers discover more of their product range, doing so in two main ways:

  1. Tapping into Relo’s proprietary data intelligence to gain insight into customer buying behaviour and forecast which products would suit them best.
  2. Increasing conversion rates with a seamless, low-friction buying experience using Relo’s Magic Cart.

They connected Relo to their Shopify store, enabling them to automatically generate personalised predictions around when a customer might be ready to try something new and which CBD product could be the right fit. These predictions were tailored to each customer, factoring in previous purchases, order frequency, and other relevant behavioural data.

Relo's 'Cross Sell' predictive analytics has helped us break down our Shopify customer and product data so we can tailor our Cross Sell Flow emails to be sent to each customer, suggesting the right product on the right day. Relo then automatically pushed those predictions directly with Diet Smoke’s Klaviyo cross-sell flow, making them actionable immediately and generating revenue straight away.
